Flashy Curtains

, originally uploaded by digital-eye.

Thanks to Duncan’s advice about 2nd curtain sync, I reshot my v-dub pic. Second curtain sync will fire the flash about 1.5 milliseconds before the second curtain begins to close. Therefore the flash fires at the end of the exposure, freezing the v-dub, with backward streaks implying forward movement.
This enabled me to produce a sharper image.

  1. This has worked well, I think I prefer this one to your original, what do you think? What flash gun did you use?

I agree, this one works much better, and I think it is what I had in mind when taking the original shot. Everything’s much sharper. I used a Canon Speedlite 430EX. It’s really opened my eyes to how light can be used creatively.
