Ever since 1935, photographers have been able to purchase their camera kit and seek advice from the staff at Jessops stores. Today marked the end of another retail era with Jessops ceasing to trade. Unfortunately I, like many others, have to hold my hands up and apologise for playing my part in the demise of yet another high street name. The lure of the Internet with it’s ease of use and convenience meant that I avoided using Jessops for photo printing and camera supplies. In a bizarre twist of fate, the rise of digital photography and its associated technology has been Jessops’ nemesis. Its cheaper to buy it on the web and easier to get it delivered than drive into town. However without Jessops there does feel as though there is an unfillable void and uneasiness that exists. Where will it all end? Which store is next to close?
