Project 21: diagonals

Task: Experiment with wide-angle and telephoto lenses close to an edge to create strong diagonals

St Peter's Square, Rome

St Peter’s Square, Rome. The grey paving leading from the bottom left hand corner of the frame creates a strong diagonal. Using a wide-angled lens enabled me to capture a large area of the square, allowing the diagonal to reach into the background of the image.

Iron Bridge, Cragside

Twisting the camera enabled me to use the metal bridge to divide the frame diagonally.

White Steps

Photographing the ladder from a low angle leads the eye along it towards the top left corner.

Marathon

Positioning the camera and focusing on the runner in the foreground leads the eye along the line of runners to the left-hand edge of the frame.
