Juxtaposition: A placing or being placed in nearness or contiguity, or side by side, often done in order to compare/contrast the two, to show similarities or differences.

I like the challenge that this type of photography offers. Unlike photographing a sequence of images to tell a narrative, to be able to take one photograph that illustrates a strong relationships between two subjects is a very difficult technique to master.

I like the humour that can be achieved in this type of narrative. I feel much more aware of looking for opportunities of this type of image.Whilst photographing the London Marathon I was near the back of the race and saw this sign on the phone box. The runners were getting tired and I waited for an opportunity to take this photo of a runner walking near to the phone box.

I am also becoming more and more interested in street photography and the opportunities that arise. This was a spur of the moment shot whilst I was in Birmingham city centre. I converted it to black and white to concentrate the narrative on the sign and the smoker.
